Ascendance Records are proud to announce the release of the début album from WHYZDOM entitled "From The Brink Of Infinity" on the 21st September.
Think of a huge orchestra and a massive symphonic choir intertwined with powerful riffs and enchanting melodies from a clear and passionate feminine voice, and you'll get an idea of what WHYZDOM have managed to create. Their classical influences ranging from the romantic to the contemporary period, as well as the appealing melodies that drive the songs, make their sound utterly unmistakeable in an ever growing scene.
The project was founded by the guitarist and orchestrator Vynce Leff in early 2007, already well known in the progressive sphere having produced several successful albums for the British label Cyclops Records. It is fronted by Telya Melane, a singer and actress, fond of metal, classical music and theatre. The other members Regis Morin, Tristan Demurger, Nicolas Chaumeaux and Marc Ruhlmann joined soon after and a first EP '"Daughter Of The Night" was recorded less than 6 months from the band's inception. It got instant acclaim from reviewers and music fans around the world, as well as several awards and plaudits (Best French Band 2008 - Metalsymphonique.com, Best EP - HeavyLaw.com, etc).
Although still a young band, WHYZDOM were invited to play in several festivals in France - most of the time as headliner - and won the Metal Female Voices Fest Contest in Belgium in October 2008. They will play in the 7th edition of this great Festival (17/10/2009) to launch their début album.
Lyrically "From The Brink Of Infinity" is an attempt to explore the feelings of human beings when confronted with the mystery of life and death. The album deals with the fear of crossing the line between the finite lapse of life and the infinity of death. Different characters, having come very close to that line, express themselves in the songs through Telya's voice, to tell their story as a form of catharsis.
It's a very strong album from a new band that has an unmistakable well of experience to draw upon within their ranks. Bombastic, ambitious and epic, Whyzdom have already made their indelible mark on the scene!
The crowd of female-fronted bands in the world of metal looks like an endless sea. Amongst them, some emerge, thanks to their originality, their talent, or other distintive element.
This is the case of Whyzdom. This small parisian band is just at its start, but very quickly, they have managed to draw attention upon them, to make a name for themselves. The band received great prizes (Best French Band 2008) and won the MFVF Warm Up Contest last year, and will have the honour to play at the prestigious Metal Female Voices Fest in 2009, with such great names as Tarja Turunen or Epica.
After an EP that received the general approval from the metal audience, it's now time that the band presents its eagerly awaited debut album. Hence the impatience before I put "From The Brink Of Infinity" in my CD player.
The album starts immediately with the majestic choir of the introduction from "The Witness". Then, let's go for more than one hour of musical masterpiece, a gem that takes us in an exceptional trip. Whyzdom is a subtile and tasty mix of classical neo-romantic music and heavy metal riffs. The wide diversity of the orchestral instruments (strings, brass, etc...), the solemn and powerful choir parts, are not only put on top of the metal riffs, but are really a part of it, merging in an intricate osmosis. The symphonic metal genre is far from being exhausted, and this is the proof !
All along the album, you get avalanches of skilfully orchestrated symphonies, heroic melodies on which metallic powerful fat riffs are played. In front of this, we have the delightful voice of Telya, the lead vocalist, who demonstrates her experienced singer talents. Vocal lines can be sung in the lyrical highpitched register or in the direct "In-Yo-Face" register (like in "The Power And The Glory, for example), always in tune and with a softness that soothes my feverish little eardrums, after a strong black or death section. The rough voice of Vynce (guitar) comes at times to darken the ambiance, giving a darker and more violent shade to the music. The choir amplifies the emotions, giving a colossal dimension to the music.
The album is varied, with tracks more or less slow, other more up-tempo (like "Everlasting Child", "Atlantis") and a magnificent and profundly moving ballad, "The Old Man In The Park".
There's also an interlude track "Freedom". Moreover, the famous song "Daughter Of The Night" was divided in two parts, the first one being a long shivery instrumental introduction, with that imposing and majestic tone.
The overall production is excellent, with a remarkable polish. The only small thing that could be reproached : we find in the album all the songs that were on the EP. We could have been nice to have some more new tracks instead. But whatever, "From The Brink Of Infinity" is a gem of symphonic metal, that you have to get for yourself urgently.

"OK boys and girls, we have a bit of a problem here. Back last year, we reviewed an EP that served as a coming out effort by Whyzdom. It was called Daughter of the Night and it included 4 tracks that pretty much blew this reviewer out of his chair, as it did for a number of reviewers around the globe. It rightfully drew an 11 on a 10-point scale and I wasn’t kidding. Talk was that a follow up was in the works, with about 8 or 9 songs and band honcho Vynce Leff guaranteed me it would be worth the wait. Well, it’s here, complete with 12 tracks. . . and it’s significantly better than the EP that preceded it. So, how do we rate it? Well, let’s hold that conundrum for a while, and let’s look at From the Brink of Eternity. "

Compuesto por 12 temas con música melódica, partes habladas y los gritos de 69 Minutos, desde el borde del infinito es un disco muy largo. Teniendo en cuenta este resultado, se espera que la calidad es tan buena la impresión de que la cantidad.
Al igual que muchas otras bandas de metal gótico y sinfónico Whyzdom se sienta en un metal duro y pegadizo, en contraste con la voz femenina. Al igual que otros grupos similares, la voz de la cantante Telya es alta y dulce, pero los franceses evitarse con la voz de soprano lírica.
El otro aspecto de la música es la parte Whyzdom Sinfónica, el grupo crece a un nivel alto. La orquestación está compuesto en su mayoría no sólo cadenas. En general, la aparición Sinfónica Whyzdom puede ser descrito como un gran éxito. Violinistas y satisfacer de una empresa Whyzdom supo más tarde épica y siempre juntos en armonía en el paisaje sonoro.
Parte de la música sinfónica Whyzdom trae consigo una parte de metal que no se queda atrás. Este juego rápido, con pasajes recordando el power metal, sin embargo, no encaja en contradicción con el acuerdo de orquesta que lo acompaña. Estos pasajes, sin embargo, no son omnipresentes, el tempo Whyzdom varía mucho y se pone de manifiesto también en ambientes más silenciosos.
En términos de técnica de juego, Whyzdom convierte en los pasajes rápidos con un alto nivel. Desde el punto de entretenimiento la garantia es infinita. Composé de 12 morceaux avec musique mélodique, parties parlées et cris pour 69(!) minutes, From the brink of infinity est un album très long. Etant donné cette constatation, on peut espérer que la qualité laisse une aussi bonne impression que la quantité.
Comme beaucoup d'autres groupes de metal symphonique et gothique, Whyzdom s'asseoit sur une base metal dure et accrocheuse, en contraste avec un chant lead féminin. Comme dans les groupes similaires, la voix de la chanteuse Telya et haute et douce, mais les français évitent ici la voix de soprane lyrique.
L'autre aspect musical de Whyzdom est le côté symphonique, que le groupe pousse à un haut niveau. L'orchestration ne se compose la plupart du temps pas uniquement de cordes. Globalement, l'aspect symphonique de Whyzdom peut être décrit comme très réussi. Violonistes et compagnie gratifient Whyzdom d'un savant côté épique et s'unissent toujours harmonieusement dans le paysage sonore.
La partie symphonique de la musique de Whyzdom amène avec elle une partie metal qui n'est pas en reste. Cette partie rapide, avec des passages rappelant le Power Metal, ne rentre cependant pas en contradiction avec l'arrangement orchestral qui l'accompagne. Musique sans reproches, riche en variations et très long, un début très convaincant!
