Comme beaucoup d'entre vous le savent, Iron Maiden ont été suivis lors de la première partie de la tournée mondiale Somewhere Back In Time, en février et mars 2008, par les auteurs du documentaire "Metal, A Headbangers Journey" et du plus récent "Global Metal", Sam Dunn et son équipe.


Lors de cette première partie de la tournée, Iron Maiden ont traversé la planète dans un avion de ligne de la compagnie Astraeus, un Boeing 757 spécialement personnalisé aux couleurs du groupe et baptisé Ed Force One, piloté par Bruce Dickinson en personne, et emportant l'équipe entière et 12 tonnes de matériel. Ils ont voyagé sur 70 000 km pour jouer à guichets fermés dans 23 stades et salles dans 13 pays sur une période de 45 jours et devant au moins 500 000 fans.



Le film, filmé en HD et mixé par le producteur du groupe Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley, sera distribué en avril 2009 par EMI Records et Universal pour les USA.

Entitled Iron Maiden: Flight 666, the movie follows the band on the first leg of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour in February and March of 2008 as they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in rock history.

The Maiden tour plan was something that had never been attempted before on such a grand scale. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew in a specially customized Boeing 757 airliner with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold out stadium and arena shows in Asia, Australia and North, Central and South America in just 45 days. They played in 13 countries, also landing in Azerbaijan and Papua New Guinea en route for fuel stops, traveling 70,000km and performing to almost half a million fans – a schedule that was only made possible by having their own “magic carpet” enabling them to go where they wanted with all the key elements of band, crew and equipment on board one plane, which was christened Ed Force One. Even more remarkable was that lead singer and Airline Captain Bruce Dickinson was not only to perform 23 shows, but he was also the pilot flying the plane for much of the way.

The band were accompanied everywhere by award winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto, Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies Metal, A Headbangers Journey and recently Global Metal. Cinemas world-wide will be screening IRON MAIDEN's new movie - Flight 666 - in glorious Hi Definition, on specially-selected digital screens to celebrate Maiden Day on Tuesday 21st April - for one day only. Details of how to book your tickets will be announced on March 1st.

Maiden have announced that the World Premiere of their movie Flight 666 will take place at the Cine Odeon Petrobras cinema in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, March 14.

Says manager Rod Smallwood: "As the band are away from the UK touring throughout February and March we elected to have the World Premiere in Rio during the tour so the band can all be there. Since the legendary first Rock in Rio Festival in 1985, Brazil has always been a very special place for us and we have since visited a number of times. The premiere will be in the early afternoon prior to our concert in Rio that evening. During this Somewhere Back In Time tour we will have toured in Brazil more than ever before, visiting eight different cities and playing in Sao Paulo twice. Having sold out the Palmeiras Football Stadium a year ago we are going back again to play in the Interlagos Grand Prix circuit where last year Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One Championship. With over 40,000 tickets sold already over a month up front, other than motor racing this is expected to be the second biggest event there ever -- after His Holiness the Pope! With the movie coming out in cinemas worldwide as a special Maiden Day on Tuesday April 21st and once again touring round the World on Ed Force One it's a very exciting time for us!!"

When IRON MAIDEN's tour manager asked filmmaker Scot McFayden for his influences during an informal interview to see if he could film the band's reunion tour, McFayden gave the snarling Brit a surprising answer: Truth Or Dare.

"After assuring him I didn't want either Warren Beatty or nudity, he began to understand I wanted the viewer to go on a journey," says McFayden, 40, in his two-storey Toronto office, which looks more like a design firm than Canada's headquarters of heavy-metal lore. "We wanted a film that didn't only show the band live, which is awesome, but let you know who they are. That's why MADONNA's film works. It shows the circus of life on tour."

Iron Maiden: Flight 666 showcases a band in their late fifties as they tour 13 countries in 45 days in a plane piloted by the group's singer. Less ANVIL! The Story Of Anvil and more BEATLES' A Hard Day's Night, the film portrays the seasoned group - with albums such as Number of the Beast and Dance of Death to their credit - as grounded, likable schlubs.

"There's no chicks in hotel rooms, no binges, no trouble," says Sam Dunn, 35, McFayden's long-haired co-writer and director, familiar to anyone who caught Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005) or Global Metal (2008), which Dunn narrates as a wide-eyed fan. "This wasn't Some Kind Of Monster (the 2004 METALLICA film that prominently employed a ‘performance-enhancing coach'). Iron Maiden doesn't need therapy."
