By Greg Pratt

Here’s the challenge: listen to tracks two (‘Head On’) and three (‘Left Hook From Right Field’) on ARMORED SAINT’s new disc, La Raza, and try to not feel like you’re king of the world. Which is pretty much the spirit of metal in a nutshell, and who better to deliver than these guys? Even with a ten-year gap between records (their last was ‘00’s Revelation), the new disc sounds fresh, alive and vital as can be. Actually, maybe that should be because of a ten-year gap…

Armored Saint is one of these things we have the opportunity to do when we feel the urge,” says bassist Joey Vera. “We have a great amount of freedom to do it; it’s a great way for us to work. We don’t have to feel like we’re under anybody’s thumb or have to live up to something. It’s a liberating way to work. We’re quite happy with that.”

ARMORED SAINT's La Raza Out Now On Vinyl

ARMORED SAINT's Joey Vera - “For All Intents And Purposes, We’ve Abandoned Our Career” T137957 La Raza, the new album from Los Angeles California's ARMORED SAINT is out now on 180 gram Audiophile Vinyl Double LP.

The gatefold LP features a different art layout than the CD version and also contains an unreleased demo version of the title track, 'La Raza'. All on 180 gram vinyl for your trusted turntables. Limited edition and import only.

Upon it's release, Armored Saint entered the Billboard charts with La Raza, the band's first release since 2001's Revelation.

La Raza debuted at #49 on the Hard Music Albums chart, #18 on the Heatseekers chart, #52 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and #2 on the Hard Music Core Stores chart.

La Raza also entered the official German album charts coming in at #96. In addition to hitting charts in both the US and Germany, the band also entered the Canadian charts coming in at #85 on the Independent chart.

La Raza is the band's first album since Revelation in 2000 and their sixth in total. The album's foundation was laid back in 2008 when Joey Vera and John Bush began writing new material for what would become La Raza and the album was completed in December at Tranzformer Studios in Burbank, CA. The album was produced by bassist Joey Vera, and engineered by Bryan Carlstrom and his assistant John Nuss. Recording was mostly done with analog equipment and the final album mix was delivered on 1 inch tape. This gives La Raza the most organic sound as possible.

La Raza LP tracklisting:

'Loose Cannon'
'Head On'
'Left Hook From Right Field'
'Get Off The Fence'
'Chilled'
'La Raza'
'Black Feet'
'Little Monkey'
'Blues'
'Bandit Country'
'La Raza'

ARMORED SAINT video for 'Left Hook From Right Field' off La Raza now live!
ARMORED SAINT's Joey Vera - “For All Intents And Purposes, We’ve Abandoned Our Career” ArmoredSaint_LeftHook
Legendary LA based metal band ARMORED SAINT recently shot a video in their hometown on July 1st for the track Left Hook From Right Field off their current release La Raza with director Jeremy Schott of
Mental Suplex. To check out the video head over to SMNnews.com where the video will be premiered and housed exclusively throughout the weekend. Be sure to check out MetalBlade.tv for production videos, interviews, behind the scenes footage, and classic videos from the Metal Blade vaults.

Vocalist John Bush gives us his description of the video for 'Left Hook From Right Field': "BAD ASS!!! That's how I would describe this video. The photography is absolutely beautiful. Rene, the boxer, did a nobleman's job and is convincing as hell. Jeremy's team was awesome to work with and super efficient. Armored Saint was captured raw and with full power. Sometimes making a video, actually the majority of the time, making a video blows. Not this time!" Bassist Joey Vera adds; "the video came out great and does justice to the song. We were going for a 'Raging Bull' look and I think we captured the vibe for sure. Most videos are pretty boring to make but this one was actually fun. We spent some time shooting scenes 'on the fly' and tried things out that were not in the story line, meaning we had a chance to improvise. The story line is a pretty good representation on the allegories that the lyrics paint. Good fun once again."

La Raza debuted at #49 on the Hard Music Albums Chart, #18 on the Heatseekers chart, #52 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and #2 on the Hard Music Core Stores chart. ARMORED SAINT's La Raza also entered the official German album Charts coming in at #96.

In conjunction with the new video, Metal Blade TV has launched one of ARMORED SAINT's classic videos, Reign Of Fire,
HERE. Check it out to get your retro video fix and keep checking back for more classic videos coming soon to Metal Blade TV!

Check out what critics have been saying about La Raza, the band's first full-length studio album since 2001's Revelation:

"The Saint sound exuberant and fully bonded… a contemporary classic rock feel accessible enough to take on Audioslave or Velvet Revolver on their own terms, and win hard." Terrorizer Magazine

"La Raza is balls out and brick heavy." Outburn Magazine

"Simply put, this is the finest record of their career and almost a reaffirmation of the reasons why John and Joey turned down Metallica all those years ago." Metal Hammer Magazine

"The 10 tracks are undeniably Armored Saint and melodic, but that doesn't mean La Raza can't be chalk full of solid songwriting and stellar performances. Quite the opposite, in fact: It is." Bravewords.com

"They reconvened as a creative outlet without any expectations and produced a damn solid collection of songs, all with strong choruses." 8/10, Decibel Magazine

"It's not only the best album yet from the underrated Los Angeles metalheads, but one of the best metal records that we'll hear in 2010. It has huge riffs, massive melodies, oceans of energy and passion, and a battalion of truly anthemic songs. Forged in fire, raised in flame, this is a stunning celebration of a band really finding their range and purpose." Classic Rock Magazine

"[John Bush] one of metal's mightiest voices" The Orange County Register

"Armored Saint, in my opinion is one of the most important bands in American Metal. At its core, LA RAZA is Armored Saint all grown up. Joey's songs are remarkably unpredictable, moving directions unseen." Metal-Rules.com

"La Raza proves to be ARMORED SAINT's most mature album… The spikes and leather are long gone and they've gotten older and bolder, but thankfully the SAINT is still marching on. Recommended." MetalEater.com

"songs like 'Loose Cannon' and 'Left Hook From Right Field' have that timeless essence- you can feel the heart and soul that the band bleeds metal through and through. Early contender for my album of the year." Blistering.com

"Bush spits the lyrics with passion, then delivers a huge chorus that sticks with you… The band is tight and the songs are solid. In short, it's Armored Saint. All that's really left to say is viva La Raza." TheNewsStar.com

"John Bush, Joey Vera, Jeff Duncan, Phil Sandoval and Gonzo Sandoval have truly captured the essence of their sound on this one, unveiling ten tracks of metal bliss, recorded in the tradition of Symbol of Salvation." KNAC.com

"Tracks like 'Left Hook From Right Field,' 'Loose Cannon,' and 'Little Monkey' carry all the attitude and grit you'd expect from this band… driving tempos, intensity and heart… It's raw, real and ultimately a very satisfying listen. In a time when other bands their age either seem to lose their way or try to be something they're not, Armored Saint do neither. They prove that veteran acts can deliver the goods time after time."
