HELLYEAH's Vinnie Paul - "When You Play In A Really Focused Metal Band Like MUDVAYNE Or PANTERA Or NOTHINGFACE, It's A Really Touchy Thing To Step Outside Those Boundaries"

The supergroup HELLYEAH, which combines the strengths of MUDVAYNE, PANTERA and NOTHINGFACE, didn't color within the lines for its latest album, Stampede.

"Nothing's ruled out," said drummer Vinnie Paul, formerly of Pantera and DAMAGEPLAN, who called SoundSpike from a tour stop in Norway. "When you play in a really focused metal band like Mudvayne or Pantera or Nothingface, it's a really touchy thing to step outside those boundaries. With Hellyeah being a little bit more of a rock 'n' roll-based band, there's really no border. So, I think once we got into it and realized we had that capability of doing those different styles and different things, it's something we all gravitated to."

'Hell of a Time', 'Cowboy Way' and 'The Debt That All Men Pay' are three of the stronger songs on Hellyeah's sophomore effort, which debuted at #8 on The Billboard 200 album chart.

"It's heavy, man," Paul said about 'The Debt That All Men Pay'. "It's one of the heavier ones on there. It's one of the things that we all really like about this band. It's very diverse. It goes from as heavy as anything we've ever done in the past, to some things that are much more bluesier, much more melodic, much more Southern. It's a really diverse record and that's one of the heavier tracks on there."
