STYX Drummer Talks About Classic Albums Tour

Todd Sucherman is not only the drummer in the superstar rock group STYX, he's a lifelong fan who had actually played Styx songs in bands prior to joining Styx in 1996. In an interview with Long Live Rock on Blog Talk Radio, Sucherman expressed his excitement at the band's upcoming fall tour, in which Styx will perform its classic albums The Grand Illusion and Pieces Of Eight in their entirety.

"These are two records that I bought and I loved," Sucherman said. "They're the ones that have the most progressive leanings, and that's a little bit more where I come from. So I think these are the two records that most personified the band, and solidified them. Those are the defining moments."

Rehearsing for the tour has been an interesting trip back in time for Sucherman's band mates Tommy Shaw and James "JY" Young, who were both in Styx for the original recordings. "It's kind of funny to see them look at each other and go, 'What did I used to do here?'" Sucherman said with a laugh. "And then they put it together."

As a fan himself, the drummer feels this is a concert experience fans won't want to miss. "I'm really excited about this venture. It's going to be fun for us and fun for people that come to the shows," he stated. "A bunch of songs have either never been played since then, or have never been performed live. This is a show that I would definitely want to see."
