MEGADETH - Rust In Peace Live CD / DVD / Blu-Ray Available For Pre-Order

The final night of Megadeth’s historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour was captured for the upcoming Rust In Peace Live Blu-ray, DVD and CD, due out September 7 on Shout! Factory. The package is now available for pre-order here.

Following is the official press release:

On March 31, 2010, at this incredibly special show at the legendary Hollywood Palladium, not far from where Dave Mustaine formed the band in 1983, Megadeth played their landmark, genre-defining 1990 Rust In Peace album in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

Rust In Peace Live also marks the return of original bassist David Ellefson (Megadeth 1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group after eight years. Ellefson (bass), joins Mustaine (lead vocals, guitar), Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar).

Rust In Peace Live features the entire Rust In Peace tracklisting, including all-time classics 'Holy Wars...The Punishment Due' and 'Hangar 18' along
with bonus fan favorites from various other Megadeth releases such as Symphony For Destruction, Peace Sells, and Skin O’ My Teeth.

Megadeth founder/frontman/guitarist Dave Mustaine explains, “We are pumped to be able to share the RIP Live concert with you all around the world. The anniversary and David Ellefson coming back was better than a facelift and a bottle of Viagra for old Vic.”

The 80-minute Rust In Peace Live DVD (5.1 Dolby Surround 16:9 Widescreen) and Blu-ray (5.1 DTS Master Audio 1080p High Definition) were directed by Kerry Asmussen. The DVD and Blu-ray will also include behind-the-scenes footage, including a rare glimpse of the band rehearsing in their dressing room as they prepare to take the stage.

Rust In Peace is considered one of the best metal albums of all time by fans and critics and debuted at #23 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in the U.S. and #8 in the U.K. The album showcased a much tighter sound, with Mustaine's writing style adopting a rhythmically complex progressive edge, prompting All Music Guide to cite Rust In Peace as "Megadeth's strongest musical effort.” The album received Grammy nominations in 1990 and 1991 for "Best Metal Performance."

Emphasizing the massive impact of Rust In Peace in the July 2010 issue of Guitar World writer Richard Bienstock calls it “one of the pinnacles of the first wave of thrash metal.” He continues, “A defining quality of Megadeth’s sound—and the one that perhaps most sets them apart from their ‘Big Four’ thrash brethren, METALLICA, SLAYER and ANTHRAX — has always been the band’s fiery mix of speed-metal ferocity and progressive instrumental virtuosity… nowhere has this combination been displayed better than on Rust In Peace.”

The full track listing for the Rust In Peace Live CD, DVD and Blu-ray is as follows:

Rust In Peace Live:
'Holy Wars...The Punishment Due'
'Hangar 18'
'Take No Prisoners'
'Five Magics'
'Poison Was The Cure'
'Lucretia'
'Tornado Of Souls'
'Dawn Patrol'
'Rust In Peace...Polaris'

Bonus Content:
'Skin O’ My Teeth' (Countdown To Extinction)
'In My Darkest Hour' (So Far, So Good… So What!)
'She-Wolf' (Cryptic Writings)
'Trust' (Cryptic Writings)
'Symphony Of Destruction' (Countdown To Extinction)
'Peace Sells' (Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?)
'Holy Wars – Reprise' (Rust In Peace)

Megadeth: "Rust In Peace Live" DVD Review
AltSounds.com has published the following review of Megadeth's forthcoming "Rust In Peace Live" DVD which was recorded at The Palladium in Hollywood, California on March 31 2010 and is set to be released on CD, Blu-ray and DVD on September 7.

"There used to be a time when people would put Metallica and Megadeth up against each other in some sort of battle to take the crown, but I'm going to ignore all that rubbish as right here, right now, Megadeth are the only band I am interested in. I'm sick of comparisons and people who rake up the past in order to justify why people do (or don’t) like Megadeth. Grow up and move on, because Mustaine and the boys are here to prove that if there is one band who can truly play, it is the one and only Megadeth. Take note.

This DVD plays out the epic album "Rust In Peace" in its entirety, displaying and demonstrating what a truly ground-breaking album it was and indeed remains. However, it wasn’t until I saw the live renditions of such classics such as ‘Hangar 18’ and ‘Holy Wars’ that I truly started to appreciate what masterpieces of music had been created. Furthermore, until a track is transferred into a live setting it is often hard to grasp how good a song actually is.

As the DVD began, the crowd were riotous with excitement at what they are about to witness. To see Mr Dave Mustaine walk out onto the stage with his custom RIP guitar was pure bliss. The axe looked absolutely breath-taking and was symbolic of human jealously in the eyes of those who saw it. His power and command over the crowd sees the audience raise their arms in approval, whilst cheering and screaming. He dominates with the phrase ‘Good evening. You all know why we’re here right?....’ before he opens up with the killer riff from ‘Holy Wars... The Punishment Due’ which really does improve with each listen (and I have listened to this MANY times).

Megadeth are on top form, producing and demonstrating some of the very finest riffs and licks on the planet and it makes you realise how there are no upcoming artists who create the same quality musical and lyrical arrangements. When 'Hangar 18' arrived it suddenly struck a chord with me, as I truly remembered the spirit of the original RIP album and the growth of Megadeth since that point in time. I am genuinely inspired by what Mustaine has managed to overcome and achieve throughout his career. Let me also mention that this gig marks the return of original bassist Dave Ellefson to the line-up of stunning musicians, including Shawn Drover (Drums), Chris Broderick (Guitar), alongside the maestro Mustaine.

‘Five Magics’ is a landmark piece and really highlights the beautiful tonal quality of Mustaine and Megadeth in general's guitars. I would love to find out the type of effects he has put in place, because the instruments really cut through the mix with precision and dominance. Never before have I heard such a sweet sounding solo! ‘Lucretia’ and ‘Tornado of Souls’ follow in quick succession with impressive results, giving a true insight into what a truly accomplished band can achieve when they commit themselves.

Ending with ‘Rust In Peace... Polaris’ it finalised what felt to me like a truly remarkable set. I am genuinely surprised and equally confused why more bands and artists don’t release full length albums in a live setting, because this to me is exactly what the die hard fans are after. Can you think of a more enjoyable purchase than watching your favourite album played out in full? I can’t! The good news is that included with the DVD are bonus features which include hits such as ‘Skin O My Teeth’ and ‘Symphony of Destruction’ to name but a few and yes, the boys are on top form there too! A brilliant DVD."
