THIN LIZZY - 2011 Vibe For Philo Under Serious Threat







According to the Save The 2011 Vibe For Philo From Being Hijacked Facebook page:

Philip Parris Lynott died at the tragically young age of 36 on January 4th, 1986. A date forever etched in the minds of all fans of THIN LIZZY, Philip's solo and other work. The legacy he left is incalculable.

In 1981 Philo's good friend Smiley Bolger (after the Alternative Song Contest - which he won with Philo) was asked by Philo in the Bailey pub in Dublin to "Do a Vibe for me sometime".

24 years on and Smiley (true to his word) has made "The Vibe" into an international celebration taking place in Dublin each year on the anniversary of Philo's passing. Thousands have flocked from every corner of the globe for this annual tribute which has done more to keep the name of Philip Parris Lynott and Thin Lizzy alive than could ever have been imagined in those early "Vibe" days.

The 2011 Vibe For Philo is a landmark being the 25th anniversary. BUT... it is under serious threat.

For some inexplicable reason Thin Lizzy (featuring three former / original members - Scott Gorham, Darren Wharton and Brian Downey) have decided to sign on the dotted line to do a gig (rumoured to be in Dublin's The O2 venue) on the same date.

Philomena (Philo's mum), Smiley and many others have expressed their utter disappointment that Philo's former band mates could do this.

There must be a compromise...

Either the 25th anniversary vibe takes place in conjunction with Smiley / The Vibe / Lizzy - or Lizzy do the decent thing and change the date of their own performance.

Not to do so will see The 02 (if that IS the venue) half empty but the Vibe will be packed as usual.

Any other Lizzy fan I have spoken to has said they will attend the Vibe ahead of the 2011 Lizzy gig if the dates clash. This would not serve Philip's memory well nor would it be good for the fans... Division is unnecessary and divisive.

Let commonsense prevail in Philo's memory.

Important: This is NOT a protest against the current / upcoming Lizzy or any promoter... it is to highlight the importance of January 4th / The Vibe.
