This coming weekend America will celebrate “4th Of July Independence Day” and we salute all of our fans in the USA.

August 1st is “Swiss Independence Day” (most of you know the story of “Wilhelm Tell”). Swiss TV is broadcasting “live” from the “Tell Open-Air Stage” in Interlaken as part of the 1st of August Independence Day celebration. The program will be televised all over Switzerland with simulcast translations in French and Italian (for those of you that don’t know this little trivia: Switzerland is about a sixth of Colorado with 4 different major languages). The title of the TV Show is called “Tell And Other Heroes”. Excerpts of Schiller’s stage play “Wilhelm Tell” will be shown as part of the program and guests include people that in some way or another have contributed to the theme of this TV broadcast as “heroes” in their field of expertise. Not just performers and dancers, but also Swiss sports celebrities, popular politicians (yes, that exists in Switzerland indeed) and famous people that helped shape the cultural and economical landscape of our country.

A musical performance by KROKUS as one of the “heroes” will be the highlight of the program. According to the producers of the show, KROKUS led the way in becoming the most successful Swiss rock act internationally in the early 80’s and rock ambassadors to put Switzerland on the rock’n’roll map of the world. With their recent reunion, the original line-up continues steadfast where they left off over 2 decades ago. TV moderators Sven Epiney and Marco Rima will interview the band on the topic of the show (“heroism”). If you are able to receive Swiss TV reception, tune in on August 1st at 8:05 PM local time and watch our “heroes”, the kings of rock!

And if you missed last year’s reunion concert in Bern and live in or around Switzerland, you get a second, rare chance to see the band “live”. This will be the only concert for KROKUS this year. KROKUS am Schweizer TV! Die Fernseh Sendung wird “live” am 1. August 2009 ab ca. 20.05-21.40 Uhr direkt von der Tell Freilichtbühne in Interlaken ausgestrahlt. Thema der Sendung, die in alle vier Landesteile ausgestrahlt und für die italienische und französische Schweiz simultan übersetzt wird, lautet: "Tell und andere Helden". Durch die Sendung führt Sven Epiney und dieser wird unterhaltsam und witzig unterstützt durch Marco Rima. Marc Storace komponierte und steuerte im Jahre 2006 den Song “Hellraiser” fuer Marco Rima’s Film “Handyman” bei.

Die Sendung ist sehr vielseitig und enthaelt Höhepunkte aus dem Schiller-Stück "Wilhelm Tell", welche vom Ensemble der Festspiele im entsprechenden Decors aufgefuehrt wird und diverse Künstler aus allen vier Landesteilen treten auf inklusive Polo Hofer und ein 20köpfiges Alphornensemble mit Fahnenschwinger. Also sehr Helvetisch! Und als Hoehepunkt der Sendung unsere geliebten KROKUS!!!

Eingeladen sind auch prominente Gäste aus Kultur, Wirtschaft, Sport und Politik, welche zusammen mit den Musikern und Tänzern zu den "Helden" des Schweizer Landes gehören oder auf jedwelche Art und Weise einen Beitrag zum Thema geleistet haben.

KROKUS sind auf ihre ganz eigene und gradlinige Art Helden der Schweizer Kulturgeschichte geworden - und sie sind es immer noch! Ein kurzes Interview zum Thema "Heldentum" ist auch geplant und die Rocker werden allen Fans ein kurzes Update geben, was so alles im KROKUS Lager laeuft.

Diejenigen Fans, welche das “Reunion Konzert” letztes Jahr in Bern verpasst hatten oder an akuten “KROKUS Entzugs Erscheinungen” leiden, koennen eine starke Dose von KROKUS “live” einnehmen am “Magic Night Open-Air” Festival am Heitere-Platz in Zofingen am 5. August. Als Abwechslung zur gegenwaertigen Studio Arbeit werden KROKUS als Headliners des Festivals gewaltig einheizen. EAV, Manfred Mann’ Earthband und Bjorn Again stehen auch auf dem Program. True fans should be rewarded for their loyalty and knowledge about the band.

That’s why we want to reward you!

Last year’s first reunion concert was indeed “magic” and the one coming up on August 5th in Zofingen will be equally “special”. We all remember forever the “first” time of everything special in our lives. I bet you still remember your first kiss, your first true love, something special that happened to you when a specific KROKUS song played on the radio….. etc.

Chris Von Rohr saved for me last year some small concert posters from the first reunion concert ever and mentioned in passing that not many were printed to start of with and that they will be extremely rare to come by in the future. The band was gracious in signing these for me, which makes them even more “special” and a rare collector’s item.

How can you win one of these 10 signed KROKUS concert posters from the Bern event at the “Stade De Suisse” last year? A copy of the signed poster can be viewed on our NEWS page. They are so “special”, that we do not just want to give them away to any lucky winner. In order to get lucky, you gotta work a little for it and do your KROKUS homework.

This is what you do:

1. Go to our www.krokusonline.com HOME page and click on the far left on top of each band member’s name and listen to their first official interview on the eve of the Bern concert (you’ll have 2 weeks to do so, each is about 20-30 minutes long).

2. As you watch, write down the questions I asked each of them (you’ll see why in a second)

3. As a true fan you must have some additional questions to ask each member of KROKUS, something you were always curious about but afraid to ask!

Das letztjaehrige erste “Reunion Konzert” war “Magisch” fuer alle die im “Stade De Suisse” in Bern dabei waren. Und das kommende Konzert am 5. August in Zofingen wird auch sehr “Speziell” sein. Fuer die Band wie auch fuer die Fans. Jeder von uns erinnert sich fuer’s ganze Leben an das “erstes Mal” in verschiedene Situationen, ob es nun der erste Kuss sei, die erste echte Liebe, den speziellen Moment wo was positives passiert ist waehrend einer der vielen KROKUS songs im Hintergrund gespielt haben (und so Teil dieses Momentes wurden) ….. und so weiter!

Vor dem letztjaehrigen Konzert hat mir Chris Von Rohr einige Konzert Posters im Kleinformat (33 x 41 cm) vom “ersten” Reunion Konzert der Originale besorgt und beilaeufig erwaehnt dass nur wenige gedruckt wurden und dass diese eines Tages eine Raritaet sein werden. Die Band hat diese Posters signiert, welche nun sogar noch mehr “speziell” sind mit einem raren Sammlerwert fuer den echten Fan.

So wird’s gemacht:

Jedes Interview ist etwa 20- 30 Minuten lang und ihr habt 2 Wochen Zeit um alle anzusehen, wann immer die Zeit es Euch erlaubt.

2. Per Musiker Interview schreibt Euch alle Fragen die ich stelle auf (Ihr werdet in einem kurzen Moment sehen, warum das wichtig ist).

3. Als echter KROKUS Fan musst Du irgend eine Frage an die Musiker von KROKUS haben, die Du immer mal fragen wolltest, aber nie dazu gekommen bist!

4. Sende Deine Fragen bis zum 19. Juli (Sonntag) an peter.waelti@krokusonline.com

5. Um mit etwas Glueck ein signiertes Konzert Poster von KROKUS zu gewinnen, musst Du neue Fragen stellen. Fragen welche ich schon an die jeweiligen Musiker gestellt habe, gelten NICHT (nun macht der 2te Absatz) sehr wahrscheinlich Sinn)

6. Zudem muss die Mail an mich eine Frage an JEDEN Musiker beinhalten, welche NICHT in den Video Interviews bereits bestellt wurde (da wir Schweizer Neutral sind wollen wir eine Frage von jedem Musiker)

Everything was perfect! One of the nicest open-air locations in all of Switzerland. Stage and crowd surrounded by huge trees and beautiful nature. A full moon and a superb performance building on and, as fans after the concert commented, even outdoing last year’s first concert by the originals.

Band and a huge crowd made the event “explosive”. With the band’s show KROKUS proved that regardless of the long hiatus of the originals neither professionalism nor musicianship suffered and they neatlessly continued as if time stood still between now and their most successful times in the eighties.

The playfulness of the band sparked over to the crowd and if this vibe is any indication of the quality of the forthcoming new CD, the rock nations of the world will witness a hot spring this coming year (when the new CD is released)!

Marc Storace: “The full moon, the electricity of the crowd and the band totally in sync made this indeed a “magic night” for us and everyone at the festival. It’s only gonna get better. The future is so bright, we’re gonna have to wear shades”.

And Chris Von Rohr added: “It was a magical night indeed and it felt great to have a little break from the absorbing studio work and play 2 new songs live – it all comes together – the band sounds better than ever. Eine perfekte Nacht! Einer der schoensten Open-Air Orte der Schweiz inmitten einer paradiesischen Natur. Dazu ein Vollmond und eine superlative Show, welche nicht nur an letztjaehriges Konzert anknuepfte, sondern dieses noch uebertraf!

Der Platz war voll und die Stimmung explosiv, die Band sowas von gut drauf, dass der Abend wirklich “magisch” wurde. Mit ihrer Show bewiesen KROKUS, dass ihre Professionalitaet, die sie sich in ihren erfolgreichsten Zeiten angeeignet hatten, durch die lange Trennung keineswegs gelitten hat. Im Gegenteil, die Spielfreude spruehte nur so aus den Musikern heraus. Sollte dies die Qualitaet der neuen CD wiederspiegeln, so steht der weltweiten Rock Nation ein heisser Fruehling bevor.

Marc Storace: “Der Vollmond, gekuppelt mit der Elektrizitaet der Fans und die Band total geil am zusammen spielen hat dies nun wirklich einen “magischen” Abend fuer uns und die Festival Besucher beschehrt. Und es wird immer besser werden”.

Who claims that Country Music has to be conformative and proper? For the last four years Slam & Howie have proved that this is not the case: With their third album „A Fistful of Songs“ the band completes a milestone filled with a mix of their own and cover songs, snotty country-rock and groovy rockabilly tunes. As honest musicians with rock pasts the guys count on classics of their youth such as „Bedside Radio“ by KROKUS.

Co-composer FERNANDO VON ARB states: Slam & Howie are a band I can fancy, especially “live” they are absolutely great. With their country style cover version of “Beside Radio” they delivered the essence of the song brilliantly. Ride On!

And co-composer CHRIS VON ROHR adds: Looking back, “Bedside Radio” is one of the most important songs we wrote and recorded. Not only did this song help to launch successfully the largest private radio station “Radio 24” some 30 years ago, but it also launched like a rocket the entire career of KROKUS. I remember as if it was yesterday how I found this record title. Sitting in a smoky bar somewhere in Basel/Switzerland, listening to a British band, the singer did some small talk in between songs and the words “Bedside Radio” stuck in my head immediately. I scribbled the words on a napkin and later on, when Fernando played a new riff, the pieces of the puzzle fit perfectly together. And Marc put the icing on the cake with his distinctive vocals. A hit was born, to become over time a true classic. Hallelujah!

NOTE: In 2007 KROKUS reunited for the first time in the original formation for the Swiss TV Show “Greatest Swiss Hits Of All Times” and as a result, “Bedside Radio” re-entered the Swiss charts 27 years after the initial release for a second time.

Hat da jemand behauptet, dass Country brav und angepasst daher kommen muss? SLAM & HOWIE And The Reserve Men beweisen seit vier Jahren das Gegenteil: Mit ihrem dritten Album „A Fistful Of Songs“, gibt’s einen Mix aus eigenen und fremden Songs zu hören, rotzigen Countryrockern und fetzigen Rockabilly-Nummern. Die Cover-Auswahl kommt natürlich nicht von ungefähr. Als aufrechte Musiker mit Rockvergangenheit setzen die Jungs auf Klassiker aus ihrer Jugend, das „Bedside Radio“ von KROKUS ist ebenso mit von der Partie.

Nach einer Hoerprobe meinte Co-Komponist FERNANDO VON ARB: Slam & Howie sind eine Band ganz nach meinem Gousteau, vor allem Live ein absoluter Knueller. Auch mit der Cover Version von “Bedside Radio” haben sie einen chefmaessigen Job gemacht. Ride On!

Und Co-Komponist CHRIS VON ROHR fuegt hinzu: “BEDSIDE RADIO” ist ein Gigant fuer uns. Nicht nur, dass er vor genau 30 Jahren mithalf, den groessten privaten Radio Sender “Radio 24” zu lancieren; er lancierte auch die ganze Karriere von KROKUS. Ich erinnere mich noch genau, wie ich den Ausdruck “Bedside Radio” fand. Es war in einer Bar in Basel, wo ‘ne Band aus England spielte. Da machte der Saenger so ‘ne Zwischenansage mit diesem oder einem aehnlichen Ausdruck. Es war wie eine Botschaft und ich schrieb sie mir in meinen Notizblock. Als spaeter Fernando mit dem Riff kam, passte alles auf einmal perfekt zusammen. Marc setzte dem ganzen mit seiner Stimme noch die Krone auf. Ein Hit – das KROKUS Evergreen schlechthin - war geboren. Hallelujah!

ANMERKUNG: Nachdem KROKUS im November 2007 zum ersten Mal in Original Besetzung in der Schweizer TV Sendung “Die Groessten Schweizer Hits” auftraten, schoss “Bedside Radio” nach beinahe 30 Jahren nach der Erst-Veroeffentlichung zum zweiten Mal in die Schweizer Hitparade!

Am Freitag, dem 2.10.2009 um 14 Uhr Schweizer Zeit strahlt RADIO LOGISCH ein laengeres Interview mit Gitarrist FERNANDO VON ARB aus.
